Canada’s Liberal Government To “Compensate” Kinder Morgan Tar Sands Pipeline to West Coast

Government Would Pay Private Company Our Tax Money To Get The Dirty Deed Done

A News Release from Canada’s Green Party

Posted May 16th, 2018 on Niagara At Large

Can you believe the latest?

Risky pipeline and tanker schemes. That is what our tax money is now paying for. Kinder Morgan is ready to give up but the Liberal government is so beholden to corporate interests that it is now willing to “compensate” the Texas oil company with taxpayer money for any losses that result from BC’s “obstruction” of the pipeline.

British Columbia NDP MPP Kennedy Stewart and Canadian Green Party Leader Elizabeth May protesting construction of Kindar Morgan pipeline in B.C. Both were arrested by RCMP during protest and charged with “civil contempt”.

“Obstructions” like environmental assessments and justice for First Nations and local communities. Like protection of orcas and west coast salmon. And the biggest “obstruction” to any oil project: climate change.

We can’t let the Liberals throw our money at Kinder Morgan for short term jobs and pretend it’s somehow part of their climate plan.

The truth is, we’re facing even more broken Liberal promises. Their pledge to reopen the environmental assessment of this project never happened. Harper’s gutted assessment process allowed it to pass and now we’re being forced to pay for it.

They are also completely ignoring their promise to stop subsidizing the fossil fuel industry. We will never meet our emission reduction targets while the government keeps us on this path.

Donate $5.00 today to support our campaign to stop Kinder Morgan from jeopardizing Canada’s cleaner, greener future and watch for updates from Elizabeth as this story unfolds.

Stay tuned,

Emily McMillan, Executive Director
Green Party of Canada
