“Non-violent civil disobedience is the moral obligation of the climate-aware, responsible citizen.” – Elizabeth May, Leader, Green Party of Canada
A News Release from the Green Party of Canada
Posted March 23rd, 2018 on Niagara At Large
A year and a half ago, Elizabeth May announced on national television that her opposition to the Kinder Morgan pipeline was so strong that she would spend time behind bars to stop it.
True to her word, Elizabeth was arrested earlier this March 23rd while protesting the pipeline’s construction on Burnaby mountain.
She is taking a stand to protect our land, air, and water. She is standing in solidarity with Indigenous groups whose rights are being ignored. She is standing to represent the interests of her constituents, local communities, and all Canadians.
We’re sending Elizabeth a list of supporters standing with her against this dangerous pipeline. Add your name now! She will so appreciate knowing that you are with her as she continues to fight for our values.
Despite 15 cases pending before the Federal Court of Appeal challenging the project, Kinder Morgan is plowing ahead with their dirty pipeline and tanker scheme against the objections of local communities.
Elizabeth has shown that she’s got our back. Let’s show her that we’ve got hers!
In friendship and solidarity, Sonia
Director of Mobilizing
Green Party of Canada

A Brief Footnote to this from Niagara At Large reporter and publisher Doug Draper – Is there anyone out there who can remember the last time – or can remember any time at all – that an owner or operated of an oil or petro-chemical company that polluted a lake or river or creek or even a puddle in this Canada with their toxic products was arrested for the act?
