A Few More Words Worth Heeding in the Age of Trump

–         We sure could use Mark Twain around now!

A Brief One for you from NAL publisher Doug Draper

I saw this quote by Mark Twain recently while walking by the window of one of my favourites stores, ‘Antique Man’ on Allen Street in Buffalo, New York.

And as I walked away from the window, my mind turned to the beginning of Mark Twain’s novel, ‘The Adventures of Tom Sawyer’, where Tom cons other kids in the neighbourhood to do his work for him – whitewash a fence – and even trick them into believing they were having fun doing it while he spent the rest of the day goofing off.

It occurred to me that if Donald Trump has ever read any story in any book – and there are many close Trump observers out there who openly doubt he has ever really opened a book at all – it would be this one episode where he would be applauding Tom’s con and writing off the boys Tom sucked in as “weak”, “poorly educated” and “losers”.
