A Statement by U.S. Congressman Brian Higgins of Buffalo/Western New York

Buffalo, New York – Congressman Brian Higgins, a member of the bipartisan Congressional LGBT Equality Caucus, released the following statement in response to President Trump’s action to rescind protections for transgender students.
“This is an attack on our most vulnerable and a significant setback in the hard-fought advancement of human rights. The struggles for transgender children and families are real and every school across the country should be a place where students can feel comfortable and safe.
“As parents and as a nation we should be teaching our children to be compassionate, to look out for others, and to respect individuality. Ironically, most children get it; they are blind to the things that make us different and embrace the beauty inside others that can bring us together. Sadly, this directive says that the Trump Administration does not.”
(A Brief Footnote from Niagara At Large publisher Doug Draper – Lest there are those out there who believe Canada is very much better, this country also has politicians at the federal, provincial and regional government level who have uttered some very disturbing words against the Gay and Transgender communites, and other communities, including Jewish, Muslim, and Black and Brown communities.)
