Slated to open in early 2018, this endeavour will create 220 new value-added jobs for skilled workers in Niagara Centre.

“GE Canada’s Welland facility is the cornerstone to the Niagara Economic Gateway-Foreign Trade Zone,” stated Niagara Centre, Member of Parliament, Vance Badawey. “This is a prime example of all levels of government working together and leveraging the many resources and incentives in place to attract cutting-edge private-sector partners, like GE Canada.”

MP Badawey and MP Chris Bittle, along with Welland Mayor Frank Campion, Niagara Regional Chair Alan Caslin and St. Catharines MPP Jim Bradley, were pleased to welcome the Honourable Chrystia Freeland, Minister of International Trade, Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne, and President and Chief Executive Officer of GE Canada, Elyse Allan, to Welland for this event.

This cutting-edge facility is supported by the Export Development Canada (EDC), the Federal body tasked with providing support and developing trade opportunities between Canada and foreign markets.

“In addition to being Ontario’s only Foreign Trade Zone, this Region also boasts a well-established multi-modal transportation network and a close proximity to the United States border, making Welland and Niagara a prime location for long-term success,” said Badawey.

“I can say with conviction, that Welland, and Niagara, are open for business.”

Whatever. If one more politician says “Open for Business”, that hackneyed cliched phrase, I will hand him/her the trophy for ‘moving forward’ made of base metal.

  2. Interesting… a Liberal “Love-in”. Surprised the mayor was invited (perhaps they had no choice. Kathleen Wynne appears to be imitating the late Maurice Duplessis. Government caters only to ridings with elected representation. Wynne continues to frustrate the Canadian Motor Speedway in Fort Erie.
