A Call-Out from Rose McCormick and the Southern, Ontario community-based zine Writings To Our Mothers
Posted August 2nd, 2016 in Niagara At Large
Niagara, Ontario –
– Thundering Waters Forest in Niagara Falls, Ontario is currently being considered as a site for a housing and shopping complex known as “Paradise”, meaning the overwhelming majority of these 500 acres are at risk to be lost to urban sprawl and development.
– Thundering Waters is forested and wetland home to hundreds of species of plant and animal life, including the endangered blue spotted salamander, monarch butterflies, and old-growth oak trees. The wetlands within this forest act as carbon sinks, absorbing c02 and helping to offset climate change.
On Tuesday, August 23rd at 6:30pm at Niagara Falls City Hall (4310 Queen Street): Niagara Falls City Council will be reviewing and voting upon the Thundering Waters Secondary Plan, join the community there and make your voice heard about protecting Niagara Wetlands!
Writings To Our Mother is a Southern Ontario based community created zine focusing upon local and global eco issues! Featuring news articles, visual art, and poetry by members of the St. Catharines community. For more information, click on the following links –
