“I find this situation to be particularly upsetting. After these dogs have suffered at the hands of humans – there are those who feel the only humane decision is to put them to death.”
An Open Letter, Dated March 11th, 2016, from Niagara Falls MPP Wayne Gates
To The Honourable Yasir Naqvi, Minister of Community Safety and Correctional Services
RE: Ontario Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (OSPCA) Decision to Euthanize Dogs

One of the more than 30 dogs awaiting their fate. Niagara Falls, Ontario MPP Wayne Gates Is calling on the provincial government to spare them.
Dear Minister Naqvi,
I am writing to you regarding the recent decision by the OSPCA to euthanize 21 dogs rescued from an alleged dog fighting ring in Tilbury.
Several of my constituents have brought this important issue to my attention noting that there may be another viable solution to housing the dogs and ensuring they live a happy and productive life.
Our office has been informed that a coalition of highly recognized organizations are willing to receive the dogs and work to rehabilitate with the ultimate goal of adoption—not death.
However, with the current breed specific legislation in place in Ontario, these dogs are not able to be rehabilitated.
I find this situation to be particularly upsetting. After these dogs have suffered at the hands of humans – there are those who feel the only humane decision is to put them to death.
The organizations involved that are willing to house and rehabilitate these dogs are looking for a special designation from the Ministry to ensure the dogs are able to remain alive and find a new home with a loving family.
I am requesting that the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services hear the pleas from many Ontario residents and grant this special designation to allow for rehabilitation and adoption for these dogs.
A Note from Niagara At Large publisher Doug Draper –
Why is it that we humans are so quick to choose euthanasia or killing or “culling” as the way to “manage” any problem or conflict we feel we may have with other species on this planet?
Please consider emailing or otherwise sending your own note, ASAP, to Yasir Naqvi, Ontario Minister of Community Safety and Correctiona Servuces to urge him not to stop plans to exterminate these dogs before it is too late.

Evil people make the dogs mean by mistreatment and then kill them because they are “mean”. I would prefer to put the people who do such things in the ring instead.

Oh if it weren’t for hunters (the new sanitized term is “harvesters”) we would be overrun with animals like the dodo bird. I sent the Minister a message.
