“In her final year as Artistic Director, Jackie has programmed a season that showcases the diversity and strength of work created here at the Shaw Festival and our patrons have responded enthusiastically,” said Tim Jennings, Executive Director of the Shaw Festival. “Based on the first month of sales, we’ve decided that we need to provide more opportunities to see some of the Festival’s highlights.”

Already the darling of the 2016 season, Engaged, a comedic look at love, marriage and money by W.S. Gilbert, has been extended with additional performances on October 19 and 20 at 8 p.m., October 22 at 2 p.m., and October 23 at 6 p.m.

Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, Jackie Maxwell’s final production as Artistic Director of the Shaw Festival, will also be extended – adding matinees on October 18 and 19 to the limited run.

Eda Holmes’ contemporary take on Bernard Shaw’s classic Mrs Warren’s Profession will have three additional performances – October 19 at 2 p.m., October 21 at 8 p.m., and October 23 at 12:30 p.m. Ms. Holmes’ second show of the season A Woman of No Importance will now have performances on October 20 and 21 at 2 p.m., and October 22 at 8 p.m.

Since the space’s inception in 2009, the Studio Theatre continues its track record for delivering engaging and challenging theatre that Shaw Festival’s audiences flock to season after season.

Responding to this demand, the Festival has added two more opportunities – matinees on August 20 and September 8 – for audiences to see August Strindberg’s The Dance of Death directed by Martha Henry starring acting powerhouses Jim Mezon and Fiona Reid.

Tickets for the Shaw Festival’s 2016 Season are available through the Box Office at 1-800-511-7429 or online at www.shawfest.com.

It is so good the see The Shaw doing so well. We have long time friends, a couple, who we go to Stratford and Shaw with. (I know, a preposition at the end of a sentence, drat!) Our friends booked two plays for us this week at Stratford, and said they are going fast, so I booked three at The Shaw Tuesday for the four of us, and found too that tickets are selling like hotcakes. Good on all the cultural industries around us. The low Loonie doesn’t hurt, but all the same, it is good to know people want to get out and about during these edgy times.

If only more people would take an interest in heritage and culture, we might be a lot more calm. Niagara is full of historic sites, artistic and cultural activities. Let’s explore more of them.
