A Brief from Doug Draper
If you haven’t been to the polls yet this October 19th, or even if you have, you may find a recent take on Canada’s election and the leaders of the three mainstream parties by John Oliver, host of the HBO cable channel’s ‘Last Week Tonight’ both funny and interesting.

Mike Myers, decked out in a Mountie uniform, joins HBO’s John Oliver for a lampooning of Canada’s federal election. The beaver behind Myers is taking Stephen Harper’s place on the piano.
Well, wait a minute now. Not everyone out there may find it to be all that funny. Oliver spends a little time in this bit lampooning the Liberal’s Justin Trudeau and the NDP’s Tom Mulcair, but he saves most of his satirical barbs for Canada’s Conservative leader and outgoing prime minister Stephen Harper.
I had a good laugh over the whole thing, especially the Harper part where Ontario-born comedian and former Saturday Night Live cast member Mike Myers shows up on the scene wearing a Mountie’s uniform, but I find a lot of Harper Conservative supporters aren’t in a very humorous mood these days – especially since the poll numbers for their party began going south.
They seemed to have a lot more fun a few months ago when they could sit around joking about Justin Trudeau’s hair. But Trudeau is having his hair cut a little more conservatively these days and it’s looking very much that he may be sworn in, hair and all, as Canada’s 23rd Prime Minister.
