Gates Calls Up Hudak On Fort Erie Race Track Hypocrisy

News from the Campaign Office of Niagara Falls MPP Wayne Gates

Fort Erie, Ontario, June 8th, 2014 — NDP MPP Wayne Gates called out Tim Hudak today for his record of doing nothing for the Fort Erie Race Track.fort-erie-horse-race11

“In November 2013, Tim Hudak skipped a vote on a critical NDP motion to restore the slots to the Fort Erie Race Track,” Gates said. “Hudak also endorsed the findings of the Liberal-appointed Drummond Commission, which called for an end to the Slots at Racetrack program.”

Wayne Gates and the NDP have consistently stood up for the Fort Erie Race Track, fighting to save jobs in Fort Erie and surrounding communities. “New Democrats secured transition funding for the Fort Erie Race Track and we will restore the slots on a permanent basis, saving 1,000 local jobs,” said Gates.

“Andrea and Wayne are fighting to keep the Fort Erie Race Track open,” said Jim Thibert, CEO of the Fort Erie Live Racing Consortium.

Gates said Tim Hudak and his Niagara Falls candidate are getting desperate because they are running on a record that achieved nothing for people in Fort Erie or the Niagara region. Now they’re trying to falsify the NDP position on casinos. Gates has consistently supported upgrades to local gaming facilities and the NDP will keep both Niagara Falls casinos open, protecting local jobs.

“New Democrats are walking the walk when it comes to protecting the Fort Erie Race Track and 1,000 jobs in Fort Erie,” Gates said. “I’ll put my record next to Hudak’s Conservatives any day.”

  1. When the Harris/Hudak Tories were in power, what did they ever do for Fort Erie or for the Niagara Region except set the wheels in motion for the Douglas Memorial, Port Colborne, Welland and Niagara Falls Hospitals to be closed???????They were the ones who restructured a well run system of Local Management and turned it into a system bent on nepotism and an appointed administration the could only lead to Privatization.

I find it hard to understand how anybody in Fort Erie could in good conscience vote for Tim Hudak after he abandoned his home town and fled to Niagara West – Glanbrook. He didn’t want to fight for you then so he probably won’t now either. Unfortunately there is much in terms of good alternatives.

  3. Congratulations to Gates for questioning Hudak’s commitment to the track! Hudak was a member of the government that brought the slots to the tracks therefore, in Hudak’s mind, he brought the slots to Fort Erie just as Maves, in his mind, brought the casinos to the Falls. Since then neither Hudak nor Maves got involved with the slots. Craitor, as the MPP for Niagara, fought to keep the track operating despite the efforts of Conservatives such as Paul Godfrey and John Snobelen, to destroy the track by recommending the slots be taken from the tracks . The Conservatives have no interest in bringing the slots back to the tracks because their friends invested in bingo halls to get the gaming machines. Do you think Hudak will go against his fellow Conservatives who invested in the bingo halls to bring the slots back to the tracks?
Hudak, the man of the hour … all talk; all wind
If Hudak had any interest in the Niagara Region he would not have fled the area for a ‘safe’ riding. It is unfortunate that the people of Niagara West- Glanbrook drink the same cola as their parents and grandparents. If they thought for themselves rather than vote as their ancestors Hudak would be seeking election elsewhere. Rather than stand for an issue Hudak chooses to run from it.
