Trump Racing His Way To White House In Gun-Crazy America

A Brief Commentary by Doug Draper

“My people are so smart! And you know what else they say about my people. … (in) the polls? They say I have the most loyal people where I could stand in the middle of Fifth Avenue and shoot someone, and I wouldn’t lose any voters. It is, like, incredible!.”

In gun-crazy America? Incredible? And Donald Trump, the front-running Republican U.S. presidential contender who hurled out those words during a January 23rd campaign rally in Iowa as part of his ‘I-can-get-away-with saying-and-doing-almost-anything-I-want-and-still-be-a-winner schtick, knows it’s not incredible either.
In a country where more than 30,000 people die from gun shots each year and where just the day before Trump poured forth those words, a good Samaritan was killed in North Carolina when he stopped to help someone stranded in a car during the recent snow blizzard down there and the person in the car felt startled and shot him, why would there be anything incredible about him saying he could gun someone down in the street and not lose any voters?

In America today, you would probably only get in trouble saying something like that if you were a member of the Muslim faith or you were U.S. President Barack Obama who the lobbyists in the National Rifle Association would like to crush for even daring to call for more thorough background checks for gun flyers or for trying to keep individuals on the federal government’s terrorist watch list from getting a gun.
Sarah Palin is one of Trump's gun-totting endorsers.

Sarah Palin is one of Trump’s gun-totting endorsers.

And by the way, polls continue to show that a good number of Americans on the Republican side of the ledger, including quite a few who support Trump and Sarah Palin, a former Republican vice-presidential candidate and a proud gun totter who has just endorsed trump, continue to believe that Obama is a Muslim who was born in Africa, making his entire presidency unconstitutional.
All of this, including Trump’s high standing in the polls and the large numbers of people attending his rallies, along with the reflexive push back each and every time a mass shooting has some calling for more gun control, , may seem incredible, if not insane to people in other parts of the world.
But with the amount of fear and anger, along with a deep loss of trust in government and mainstream media that blankets the landscape across America today, there is nothing that incredible about it at all.

One response to “Trump Racing His Way To White House In Gun-Crazy America

  1. Trump feels he can do and say anything with impunity.
    He mocks a disabled man.
He says he can shoot someone in Time Square and not lose a vote.
He tells lies (never mind, all politicians do that).
He calls everyone losers and stooopid.
He says he’ll bomb enemies to a pulp.
He takes over a protected seashore sanctuary in Scotland by bribery and then bitches because the he thinks wind farm off shore looks ugly.
    He mocks gun control.
He insists Obama was born in Kenya when he absolutely knows otherwise.
He venomously turns on anyone who opposes him.
    Yet people worship him.
    God bless America.

In the US about 88 people a day are killed by guns. That means about
450,000 Americans, including children, have died by the gun since the 9/11 attacks. US casualties in WW1 were 53,400. All terrorist attacks including and since 9/11 have killed about 3000. That’s 450,000 to 3000. In spite of that, the government passed The Patriot Act that infringes on all kinds of citizens rights in order to protect from terrorism but no laws to protect Americans from guns because it MIGHT infringe on their rights. That is insanity.
