Canada’s winner for the 2026 Nobel Prize for Literature, the great poet/essayist Anne Carson
“I congratulate Canadian poet Anne Carson on being awarded the 2026 Nobel Prize in Literature – one of the world’s highest literary honours.
A poet, essayist, translator, and classicist, Ms. Carson has reimagined the classics with wit, imagination, and a style entirely her own. She has brought ancient stories to new audiences and transformed the way we think about literature.
Drawing on ancient traditions with bold imagination and originality, her work has inspired writers and captivated readers around the world. Her contributions have earned her numerous other distinctions, including two Griffin Poetry Prizes and her appointment as a Member of the Order of Canada.
This is an extraordinary achievement for Ms. Carson, and a proud moment for Canada.”
A Brief Footnote from Niagara At Large reporter/publisher Doug Draper – These days, when there is so much that is on the darker side going on out there, it is such a pleasure to post such good news. And yes, yes, yes, congratulations to you Anne Carson.
