Let’s Continue To Go Cold Turkey On American Booze

And Let’s Continue To Do Everything Else We Can To Stand Up For Canada And Against The Threats and Punishing Tariffs Trump And His Followers Are Aiming At Us

A Brief Commentary by Doug Draper

There are reports that our federal government in Canada may have been urging Ontario and other provinces to lift their ban on selling American alcoholic beverages as one way of convincing Trump to at least reduce his punishing tariffs on our country.

Now that talks with Trump to do so have broken down to a point where this screwball in the White House is slapping even more tariffs on a wide range of Canadian goods, U.S. wines and spirits should remain off Canadian retail shelves for the rest of time he is in office.

Suffice to say, I side with many other of my fellow Canadians who, according to recent polls and reports in the mainstream media, believe that as a show of support against a U.S. administration that obviously has no respect for our country as an independent nation with values of its own, we should boycott American booze, along with travel to the U.S. and as many other products made in the U.S. as we can.

I also side with the efforts of Prime Minister Mark Carney and his Liberal government to forge stronger trade relationships with other, more friendly countries around the world and to work at building our own manufacturing and food-growing economies so that we can thrive on our own.

I say all this as someone who once was that voice in the room who would defend the United States and its people when I felt that others were going too far in putting them down.

With apologies to friends in the U.S. whom I know did not vote for Trump, I can’t do that any more.

For reasons that don’t make any sense and that may have more to do with Trump using Canada as another distraction to take attention away from his disasterous war with Iran and other controversies and scandals, I believe our country has no choice but to work as hard as we can and as fast as we can to close the door on our relationship with the United States.

Thanks to Trump and all of the tens-of-millions of Americans who were foolish enough to vote for him, the days when we boasted about sharing one of the friendliest borders in the world are over.
