A Brief Tribute from a life-long fan, Doug Draper
Posted July 15th, 2026 on Niagara At Large

That Stone Poneys album with a young, upcoming Linda Ronstadt featured on the cover.
Way back in 1968, when I was still a kid in grade school, I went to one of my favourite record stores and spotted an album with a picture of this beautiful young lady with big brown eyes on the cover.
It that made my teenage heart melt.
The album was by a group called Stone Poneys and the young lady was Linda Ronstadt who had a big hit with the group that year called ‘Different Drum’.
Linda soon went on to pursue a solo career with records that sold tens-of-millions and earned her an amazing 11 Grammy Awards and so many other honours, including induction in to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
As for this guy, I still love her and my wife has had to get used to it.
And I can’t believe that Linda Ronstadt has turned 80 today, but our journey on this earth is shorter than we want it to be and here we are.
I will leave you with one of her first great solo hits, from 1970, called ‘Long, Long Time.’ You will enjoy hearing and watching her perform it by clicking on the screen immediately below –

Have a Great 80th Birthday Linda. Doug Draper
