Speed Kills? To Hell With That. Ontario Is Raising Speed Limits on Most Provincial Highways

News from the Government of Ontario Premier Doug Ford

With A Brief Foreword by Doug Draper at Niagara At Large

Posted June 25th, 2026 on Niagara At Large

Did Doug Ford ever hear the line, based on a good deal of reliable evidence gathered for decades all over North America, that “speed kills”?

Did Ford ever hear that driving cars and trucks at higher speeds that run on gas and diesel fuel burns far more of that fuel too.

I guess with his addiction for car and trucks and for  building more roads and highways and bridges to accommodate them well in to the future, Ford either didn’t get that memo or didn’t want to read it.

Road tests show that for every 10 kilometres above 9o kilometres an hour we drive, our vehicles burn about 10 per cent more fuel. But between what carbon emissions are doing to contribute to a growing climate crisis  and the energy shock we are all now facing in he wake of Trump’s war, why should we care about that?

So hear we go, just as the big summer driving season begins, is Doug Ford’s latest gift to those who want to drive supper fast. Get on your mark, get set, GO!!! –
