A Brief Foreword by Niagara At Large reporter/publisher Doug Draper –

Why isn’t Ford taking our tax dollars and doing more of this instead? Is he afraid of being a world leader in 21st Century energy generation?
I know that this is beginning to sound like a broken record that I am getting tired of too, but just think of how much further we could go with the billions of dollars Ford wants to spend on nuclear reactors if we took that money and spent it on more renewable & environmentally sustainable energy projects like wind and solar.
And why isn’t the Ford government willing to take more seriously measures to build new homes and other buildings and retrofit existing ones to conserve more energy? Why is energy conservation hardly ever mentioned by this government and by governments at the municipal and federal level, for that matter?
Certainly a good many jobs would be created moving with more vigor in those directions too!

Ontario’s massive, more than three and a half decade old Darlington Nuclear plant, located along the northern shores of Lake Ontario.
Now here is the Ford government’s news release –
TORONTO, Ontario – Today (this April 4th) , Stephen Lecce, Ontario’s Minister of Energy and Mines, issued the following statement in response to the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission’s decision to issue a power reactor construction licence for Unit One of the Darlington New Nuclear Project.
“This approval is a historic milestone for Ontario and Canada. The Darlington Small Modular Reactor (SMR) will be the first of its kind in the G7, helping to power our growing province with reliable, affordable, and emissions-free energy.
The Darlington New Nuclear Project could create up to 17,000 Canadian jobs during construction, contribute over $15 billion to Canada’s GDP, and drive $500 million annually into our supply chain because our government has insisted and successfully negotiated that local Ontario and Canadian businesses must be overwhelmingly used to build SMRs for the world.
Ontario is realizing its potential as a stable democratic energy superpower, and I look forward to sharing next steps for this exciting project in the coming weeks.”
