The Orange-Face Menace To The South Is Now Threatening “Economic Force” Against Canada

At January 7th, 2025 Press Conference, Trump Once Again Gives Canada’s  Sovereignty The Finger As He Talks About That ‘Artificially Drawn Line’ Between The Two Countries

A Commentary by Doug Draper at Niagara At Large

Posted January 7th, 2025

Trump, figuratively speaking, gives Canada the finger as he strengthens his rhetoric about Canada becoming a “51st state.”

Up to now I have joined what I believe were many other Canadians in half dismissing U.S. Presidential-elect Donald Trump’s taunts and threats against our country as child-like ravings from the ignorant clown that he is.

But his rant at a press conference he hosted at his palace down in Florida this January 7th has crossed the line for me, as I suspect it has for many others judging from the commentary later in the day on CBC’s main cable news network.

Even our outgoing Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and his Foreign Affairs Minister Mélanie Joly, who have been walking fairly gingerly up to now in the hope, I imagine, that they can keep Trump from poisoning a long-standing friendship and economic partnership between the two countries, finally spoke out with some pretty strong words.

In one brief statement, Trudeau shot back that “there isn’t a snow ball’s chance in hell” that Canada would join the United States.

Before I go on, and if you haven’t seen or heard what Trump said about Canada during that press conference, click on the screen immediately below –

Shortly after Trump finished ranting about, in so many words, what a weak, non-entity Canada is and how, on its own, has nothing of value to offer to his country or others, Trudeau responded that “workers and communities in both our countries benefit from being each other’s biggest trading and security partner.”

Canadian Foreign Affairs Minister Melanie Joly finally speaks out publicly against Trump’s insults and threats.

Canadian Foreign Affairs Minister Melanie Joly shot back that Trump’s comments “show a complete lack of understanding of what makes Canada a strong country. …Our economy is strong. Our people are strong (and) we will never back down in the face of threats,” she declared.

Perhaps one thing we Canadians should do, to the extent that we can, is boycott American made products and stop travelling across the border and spending our money.

Another measure our federal government should consider taking is refusing to welcome Trump’s choice of an ambassador to Canada to our country – a gun-loving, NRA hack and  former congressman from Michigan named Pete Hoekstra – after his administration is sworn in just two weeks down the line.

Invite Trump to close his embassy here if he feels like that about us  while we work at building closer ties economically, socially and otherwise with countries in Europe and other parts of the world that are not so hostile toward us.

Meanwhile, shame on tens-of-millions of Americans who voted for a wacko who they should have predicted, based on his behaviour the last time he occupied the White House, is so willing to flush a longstanding friendship with Canada down the drain.

  1. Trump’s approach is so narcissistic, egotistical and incompetent as to be almost beyond belief. Who the Hell does he think he is – trying to dictate to two NATO members (Canada and Denmark) and Panama? Somebody in authority needs to tell him to stop being so bloody stupid and start behaving with due respect towards the leaders of all other countries. PERIOD!

I completely agree with your comments about Trump and although I know that most of what Trump says is bluster, we cannot forget that there are many Canadians who would love to have Canada taken over by the US. I suspect the Poilievre, Danielle Smith and their gangs are at the top of the list. We must also remember that the US just walked into Hawaii and took it over.

Dear Niagara at Large readers and editor!

We attempted to create a home in Ontario for at least two reasons: #1 The American Hegemony and the positive Canadian culture and governmental choices for your citizenry. We support your blog and the insights because you speak truth to chaos; contrasting the us government’s legal systems that supports wealth and profiteering against social values for the people.

Here in the USSA the first value is PROFITEERING in our health systems, and both federal and state laws subtly providing great rewards for those ‘ loyal’ Capitalists using their own resources not for social goals but for the goal of private wealth.

Here in the US it’s always a ‘ great new social or medical program/ law being created for the ‘ people’ but the reality is that only through wealth can the average citizen find a peace and health.

We are soo tired of the capitalistic bias reflected throughout the US Government and the language that supports its continued control of our citizenry. (propaganda)! E. Musk is the new leadership model and its obvious that he will slash and destroy any aspect of our economic systems that prevents his goals of wealth for the few and much less for the citizenry.

Well, Doug, don’t lose faith. The Citizenry of Canada has great values and a great caring society. Yes, you do have the same type of nutcases as we find in the MAGA ranks …that rank also.

I think a new form of leadership should be developed in which the leaders know the people and families of their communities. This will create a ‘ caring’ leadership style with trust being earned and appreciated.

We have to tell our governments what is firstly impt. I just hope we will still be available to come to Canada and enjoy your freedoms. Steve
