One of my earliest memories of Christmas time is of my father taking the whole family on a car ride on a dark, snowy night to see some of the homes whose owners received awards at the time from a panel of judges in our hometown of Welland for their great outdoor display of lights.
In that spirit, I am sharing with you a few of the most dazzling displays at homes where I now live in Thorold.
Here they are –

This home on Carleton Street North in the old section of Thorold has been a real show stopper in recent years. photo by Doug Draper

The glow of white lights on this home on Richmond Street in Thorold has passersby slowing down for a good look. I believe this is also the former home of the late Mel Swart, one of the best provincial members of parliament that Niagara has ever had. photo by Doug Draper

Finally, this photo does not do the spectacular display, complete with music and animated Christmas characters, at this house at the corner of Tupper and St. David’s Road the justice it deserves. If you get a chance, take a road trip before the Holiday Season is over and check it out for yourself. (Just watch the traffic turning on and off Tupper). photo by Doug Draper
I’m sure that you have some stand-out displays like this in your community. Go out and enjoy them while you can.

Dear Doug: If it is 49 Richmond Street then it was the former home of Mel Swart. I grew up just down the street from Mel on Queen Street South. With kindness I remain, Paul.
