A Great Woman Leaves The Stage With A Powerful Message To Younger Generations & To All Of Us

“Don’t ever give up. … Don’t ever stop trying to make this world a better place. You have the power and don’t ever listen when someone tries to to tell you that something is impossible because it has never been done before. You have the capacity to do extraordinary things in the world.”                                                       – Kamala Harris, U.S. Vice President and outgoing Democratic presidential candidate

I promise you that I will move on from this and get back to other issues of interest and concern to our lives and our communities.

But like millions of people on both sides of the Canada/U.S. border, I am still trying to come to terms with the fact that a majority of American voters chose to put Donald Trump back in the White House rather than elect Kamala Harris as their next president.

This past November 6th, 2024 and barely more than 12 hours after Trump was declared the projected winner of the 2024 presidential race, Kamala Harris went out on a stage at Howard University where she graduated in political science and economics before going on to earn a law degree at the University of California, she stood before  thousands of mostly young people and delivered a concession speech with a dignity and grace that Trump has proven, time and time again,  to be totally void of.

During the speech, she urged her young supporters and everyone else who cared to listen not to despair and instead, to “mobilize” and “stay engaged” in fighting for issues that matter to them.

Tearful young supporters look on.

As much as I have tried not to despair since the votes were counted and Trump was officially declared the winner, it is hard not to.

Yet I believe that if there is one silver lining that comes out of this, it will be that more people of all ages on both sides of the Canada/U.S. will get more engaged and push governments at all levels to address climate change, the growing income gap, the need for more affordable housing and other challenges we face.

Now here, if you have not yet heard it, is Kamala Harris’s concession speech and clarion call for citizen engagement. Please hear and watch it by clicking on the screen immediately below –

With that address, she turned and left the stage leaving me to wonder why so many American voters picked him over her.

It’s hard to believe that the majority of Americans voted for Donald Trump over Kamala Harris. In the real world Donald Trump, a convicted felon, couldn’t get a job as a cab driver, not to mention that he went bankrupt 6 times ……… And they want this man to lead the nation.
