Applications Being Accepted For Niagara Regional Chair’s Youth Advisory Panel

Niagara Regional Chair Jim Bradley,

“As Regional Chair, I am keenly interested in hearing from Niagara’s youth about ways to make local government more engaging, and if our programs and services are meeting their unique needs. I am looking forward to identifying a new group of individuals from across Niagara that not only represent our diversity, but who are also able to share their ideas and opinions about how to make our region a better place to live. I invite all interested young people to visit our website and complete an application.”                                                                               – Niagara Regional Chair, Jim Bradley

An Invite to Young People from Niagara’s Regional Government

Posted April 7th, 2024 on Niagara At Large

Niagara, Ontario – As part of Niagara Region’s efforts to hear from as many voices as possible, applications are currently being accepted from youth ages 13-19 to participate on the Regional Chair’s Youth Advisory Panel (RCYAP).

Established in 2021, RCYAP members provide recommendations, advice and information to the Regional Chair and staff on issues that affect Niagara teens. The panel is comprised of 12 members, each with different backgrounds, experiences, and viewpoints. The Regional Chair and one Regional Councillor volunteer representative also serve on the panel.

While all areas of the Region’s operations could be discussed, potential areas of focus for the panel  include the natural environment, public transportation, housing and homelessness, and mental health. The panel will also provide advice to the Regional Chair regarding ways to boost engagement among youth in Regional decision making.

Applicants with leadership experience, an understanding of local governance, and diverse backgrounds are encouraged. No prior advisory board experience is necessary, but examples of collaborative decision-making are welcomed.

Panel members will serve a one-year term, with an option for a one-year extension. The 2024 term runs from May 2024 to June 2025. Applications close on April 21, 2024. Interested youth  can apply online [https://surveys.niagararegion.ca/s3/Application-2024-Regional-Chair-s-Youth-Advisory-Panel] .
