Ford and Clark Run Massive Publicly-Funded Ad Blitz In Effort To Head Off Growing Greenbelt Scandal

“A housing crisis is no excuse for breaking the law. None.” – Marit Stiles, Leader of Ontario’s Official Opposition NDP

A Statement from Ontario NDP Leader Marit Stiles

Posted September 1st, 2023 on Niagara At Large

(Ontario Premier Doug) Ford and (his Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing Steve) Clark gave empty apologies for the Greenbelt scandal to the camera (this past August 31st)  – while they run a massive publicly-funded advertising blitz that pushes the busted myth that their corruption scandal has anything to do with housing.

Marit Stiles, Leader of the Official Opposition Ontario NDP released the following statement:

“Everywhere I go in Ontario – even in places kilometres away from the Greenbelt – people are angry at this government. They’re angry that Ford and Clark are still refusing to take accountability for something they know is wrong. And they’re angry that when they go on social media, or turn on their radio, they find advertisements pushing their tired excuses.

Ontarians are not fools. This government needs to own up to their actions and reverse this corrupt Greenbelt deal. Trust has been completely broken in by this province, and it can’t even begin to be repaired until Clark is removed from Cabinet.

A housing crisis is no excuse for breaking the law. None.”

Stiles is calling on the Conservatives to pull the plug on this advertising blitz, and more importantly fire Minister Clark from Cabinet, recall the Legislature and return all lands to Greenbelt protection.

Quick Facts

* On August 9, the Auditor General released a scathing report that exposed a ‘flawed’ and biased process that ‘favoured certain developers’

* On August 11, just two days later, a taxpayer-funded advertising blitz began running, repeating the tired talking point that the government is ‘reducing red tape’ to build more homes

* Ford’s own hand-picked Housing Affordability Task Force found that 1.5 million homes are needed – but no Greenbelt land is required

* These ads are paid for with taxpayer money

A Note from Niagara At Large reporter and publisher Doug Draper –

I know, I know.

By now some who have been following the Niagara At Large site on the Greenbelt issue may be saying; ‘That Draper must be a member of the NDP because he has posted so many statements and news releases on the Greenbelt issue from the New Democratic Party.’

The truth is, whether you believe it or not, is that I am not, and never have been, a member of any political party. To paraphrase the late, great Groucho Marx, “I refuse to  join any group that would have someone like me for a member.’

The reason NAL has posted NDP Leader Marit Stiles and her party so many times on this issue is that they are the one political party in Ontario that has been first and foremost in putting the heat on the Ford government on this issue. And I say this in all due respect to Ontario’s Green Party tha, as much as I ‘m sure it wants to, does not have the resources to  do the same,

  1. There is enough land outside the Greenbelt that there is no need to use land in the Greenbelt. Since land outside the Greenbelt is available houses can be built sooner.

  2. You are absolutely right it has been the NDP putting the heat on Ford and for that I am most grateful. He is stealing a precious God given Greenbelt and deserves all the calling out he gets.
Do the right thing Ford and get your mitts completely off the Greenbelt. Remember it is not yours to destroy. The Greenbelt belongs to Ontario and Canada not Youl
