Free to attend. Come experience elements of a traditional Asian Water Lantern Ceremony, our Wishes on the Water.

Free to attend, this event is designed to address anti-Asian racism, by creating a safe space, using art to encourage dialogue, compassion and understanding. This quiet and personal reflective event is family-friendly and designed to especially accommodate those with mobility and sensory/auditory concerns.

Enjoy live traditional and modern Chinese music performed by Helen Huang on violin and Lion Dancers, scheduled to appear around 8pm. Be sure to stay for the Great Launch at dusk when all the lanterns will be floated upon the water at once.

This event is free to attend, hear the live entertainment, and watch water lanterns float upon the pond. Mooncakes – $6 each
Mooncakes are a traditional food eaten at a Moon Lantern Festival. Though our event is occurring earlier in the year, we wanted to offer a seasonal cultural treat. Our Mooncakes are commercially made, 160g each and about 3.5” square-just enough for a taste for 4 people. Mooncake flavour varieties are randomly served. BUY NOW

Luminary Bags – $2 each
A white recyclable illumination bag can be written with the name of someone you wish to honour or a message of hope, peace remembrance or celebration, inside of which will be placed a tea light. You can choose to display your illumination bags at a designated placement at the event, take it home with you or leave them with us, and we will place them at all Summer 2022 events on your behalf. There are no refunds unless the event is cancelled. In the case of bad weather or postponement, we will make notices on our Facebook page @niagarafolkarts.

Parking at the event.
Free parking is available at the curbs that touch and surround Chippawa Park, with a few dedicated spots located on First Avenue between Fitch Street and Linrose Avenue. Please be respectful when parking on adjoining side streets as we want to be good Neighbors to the homeowners there. There are 2 Accessibility spots located near the pavilion, on First Avenue, which will not be monitored by event organizers.

Preferred Parking Reservations
For those with mobility or sensory/auditory concerns, we have a few reserved parking spots available. All reservations are on a first-come basis, and we have created a small paved, drop-off area near the Pond as well, directly at the 90 First Avenue park sign/volleyball courts. Please contact festivalcoordinator@folk-arts.ca to reserve a spot.
