Let’s All Do What We Can to Provide Humanitarian Aid to the Ukrainian People

A Brief Commentary and a  Call-Out from Doug Draper at Niagara At Large

Posted March 7th, 2022

If you have been anywhere near a video screen tuned in to the cable news in recent days, you have no doubt seen them.

A madman’s bloody lust for money and power has them fleeing for their lives, setting off one of the worst humanitarian crises in Europe since the Second World War.

They are the heartbreaking scenes of Ukrainian refugees, with fear, tears and a look of hunger n their faces as they clutch any of their belongings they can carry. Many of them have children, the youngest hugging their favourite stuffed toys like security blanket.

An estimated 1.6 million plus have crossed the border so far to Poland and any other neighbouring country that is not yet, although might one day be the next target of Vladimir Putin’s murderous bullets and bombs.

Representatives of UNICEF, Doctors Without Borders and other international aid organizations are already calling it one of the worst, if not the worst humanitarian crisis that Europe has experienced since the Second World War.

And as the monster in the Kremlin continues to direct his lethal forces to commit one war crime after another on the Ukrainian people, the need for humanitarian aid reportedly grows more desperate by the day.

A week ago, Niagara At Large posted a statement from Niagara’s Regional Chair Jim Bradley that contained an appeal to anyone who has the means and the will, to make a donation to help the Ukrainian people, both those fleeing their country and those who remain inside, under bombardment.

Jim Bradley’s statement contained the names of two trusted groups (not that there aren’t several others) that we can make donations to. They include the Canadian Red Cross and the Canada Ukraine Foundation.

For everyone’s information, I am including a link for the Niagara Regional Chair’s previously posted statement and appeal to donate , which includes contact information for the two groups.

Niagara At Large joins countless millions around the world who are standing in solidarity with the Ukrainian people and who are demanding the end of Putin’s bloody war.

This seems like Neville Chamberlaine all over again. I know it’s a risky situation but they’re ‘discussing’ giving them planes, they’re ‘discussing’ not buying Russian oil….’discussing’ endlessly. Well DO IT before Ukraine is a cinder. I don’t care if I pay $3.50 a litre for gas for a while and as a result the cost of everything will go up. Putin will not stop. He’s a murderous thug and will keep pushing regardless, so the world has to act NOW. What’s next, Moldova? Lithuania? Latvia?
It is so frustrating feeling so helpless. An online friend in Germany is taking in a refugee family.
Strange that an ex comedian has become an inspirational REAL President and an ex President has become a clown.
