At the end of this ill-timed federal election, there is no change in the four ridings making up the election map in Niagara, Ontario.
Although tracking polls showed the federal Liberals and Conservatives running neck and neck in the Liberal-held ridings of Niagara Centre and St. Catharines, the two Trudeau incumbents, Vance Badawey and Chris Bittle, began inching ahead of their rivals during the final days of the campaign, and this Monday night, they prevailed.
Working with an impressive campaign team that was out there, on the phones and on the ground, spreading the word about their candidate, Badawey defeated second-place Conservative Graham Speck by more than 2,000 votes, with the NDP finishing third and the People’s Party of Canada (PPC) and Green Party finishing a distant fourth and fifth.

St. Catharines Liberal incumbent also defeated second place Conservative Krystina Waler by more than 2,000 votes, with the NDP running third and the PPC and Green polling well behind.
In Niagara West, which has a long record of being a bastion for federal and provincial Conservatives, the race was not even close. Conservative incumbent Dean Allison’s win was called early by media outlets, with the rest of the pack falling well behind.
The race in the Niagara Falls riding turned out to be more interesting with tracking polls showing second-time Liberal rival Andrea Kaiser closing in on Conservative incumbent Tony Baldinelli in the final days of the race and a last-minute visit from Liberal leader Justin Trudeau providing another boost.
However at the end of it all, Baldinelli beat Kaiser by more than 3,000 votes with the by now familiar pattern of the NDP finishing third and the PPC and Greens falling behind.
