A Call-Out to All of Us from the Niagara Activist Network and Housing Now Niagara

Schedule of Events:
-Street protest (please bring your own signs or artwork if you can) housing hand outs will be provided.
-All are welcome to bring their creativity to this demonstration, be it songs, poetry, dance, or artwork. We will be recording people’s personal housing testimonials, participants are invited to share their struggles and offer solutions.
-We will ask for your input on the preparation of a letter of demands that we will present to all three levels of government.
-Closing with a circle of solidarity for homeless people and those struggling with housing
Thousands across the Niagara Region are without a place to call home. The housing market has become financialized due to a lack of market regulation and rent control, resulting in a crisis based on wealth inequality.
Affordable housing is defined as 30% of household income. All citizens must be granted this right over an achievable time-frame This will require investment in non-market housing strategies (co-operative, non-profit, public/social), while addressing ecological and climate justice on all future projects.
Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP) and Ontario Works (OW) rates have remained stagnant for years. Financial supports must be raised to match the cost of living and housing allowances match market rental rates.
We ask our government to declare housing as a human right and take immediate action to implement policies as a reflection of this commitment.
Please contact your government representatives and express your concerns for affordable housing for all. Everyone has a right to a housing secure future.
