A Brief Commentary by Doug Draper

One of the leading headlines from Canada’s National News network, CBC, this August 3rd said this –
“Line 5 pipeline between U.S. and Canada could cause ‘devastating damage’ to Great Lakes, say environmentalists”
Of course, what do environmentalists know?
They were wrong about the poisonous effects of DDT, PCBs and other toxic chemicals on humans and wildlife weren’t they?
Weren’t they also wrong some 40 or more years ago in predicting the further catastrophic effects of climate change? There would be no ever so frequent disastrous floods, droughts, wind storm and wildfires, would there?
And now, never mind any possible rupture of a gas or oil pipe in the Great Lakes, a source of drinking water and a whole host of economic benefits for tens-of-millions of Canadians and Americans living around them.
So let’s get back to that headline CBC News posted this August 3rd – “Line 5 pipeline between U.S. and Canada could cause ‘devastating damage’ to Great Lakes, say environmentalists”

A look at the aging Enbridge pipeline at the bottom of the Great Lakes, crusted with rust and other crud. Do we really want to go on trusting our drinking water supply on this? Of course, Doug Ford and Justin Trudeau say “YES” . There seems no end to their worship of climate ravaging gas and oil
Never mind that Enbridge, one of the greediest oil and gas producing corporations in the world, is lobbying governments in both Canada and the United States to continue using it.
And never mind that Ontario Premier Doug Ford supports this pipeline’s continued use because, in his view, shipping Enbridge’s climate ravaging product by truck or train would be more expense.
Leave it to the likes of an environmental Neanderthal like Doug Ford not to realize how much a devastating spill of gas or oil in the only Great Lakes we have as a source of survivable fresh water would cost.
The continued use of this aging Enbridge pipeline under our Great Lakes has got to be stopped, and shame on Canada’s Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and his Liberal government for not joining the Governor of Michigan in shutting it down. I through I remembered Trudeau once claiming that he cared about the overall health of our environment and climate change.

For those who believe that Line 5 is safe, a pipeline which was built in 1953 and designed to last for 50 years has now been operating on borrowed time for the last 18 years. The results of an oil spill are devastating. Remember the Exxon Valdez…………https://www.bing.com/videos/search?q=Exxon+Valdez+oil+spill&&view=detail&mid=AEC4DF6AA778B5375409AEC4DF6AA778B5375409&rvsmid=04F9C30515B23DDD51
