In memory of one of Niagara, Ontario’s great environmental activist, Margherita Howe, president of the Niagara-on-the-Lake-based, Operation Clean.

A true warrior for our planet.

I was proud to know her and cover her many campaigns for a healthier world in our Great Lakes region. She was a relentless, courageous warrior for Mother Earth.

Every time we need a powerful voice in the room to give those who plunder our green places the hell they rightfully deserve, I miss her badly.

She received Order of Canada recognition for her efforts and she was, as some of our American friends in the environmental movement came to call her, ‘the lady of the lakes’.
