Standing Against Workers Will Haunt Ford’s Conservatives
A News Release from Ontario’s Liberal Government

TORONTO, Ontario – Steven Del Duca, Leader of the Ontario Liberal Party, issued the following statement:
“The past week has been absolute chaos in Ontario. Sweeping police powers, closures on the outdoor activities experts say don’t cause the spread of COVID-19, and insufficient measures. But despite everything Doug Ford threw at the wall, he didn’t even bother to consider paid sick leave.
Ontario Liberals are calling on Conservative MPPs to finally stand with essential workers and against their anti-science Premier, and pass our bill before Doug Ford runs and hides from the outrage he caused.
For over a year, Ontario Liberals have stood with doctors, other opposition parties, and virtually everyone else to demand paid sick leave. It was, after all, Ontario Liberals who brought in paid sick leave in the first place before Doug Ford cut it in 2018. That’s because we know how important protection is for workers.
This week we have Ontario Liberal MPP, Michael Coteau’s bill on 10 days of provincially funded paid sick leave up for debate at the legislature. If Doug Ford suspends parliament on Wednesday, that debate won’t happen. Workers deserve for the bill to pass.”
