Niagara West MPP Sam Oosterhoff, member of Ontario’s Ford Government
TORONTO, Ontario – MPP Oosterhoff issued the following Member’s Statement in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario, today, with an update on the province’s COVID-19 vaccination rollout in Niagara.
“I rise today to acknowledge and thank the hardworking members of Niagara Public Health, as well as Niagara Health, for the incredible work they have been doing to ensure that residents in Niagara are able to access COVID-19 vaccines. From Dr. Mustafa Hirji, Acting Medical Officer of Health, to Lynn Guerriero, President of Niagara Health, we’ve seen the incredible commitment of health care workers across Niagara.
We’ve seen over 119,000 vaccinations given out in Niagara. That’s over 22 percent of the population, a percentage that is above the provincial average. It’s so important that we continue to encourage people to be able to go out, get their vaccines at many of the locations that are across Niagara.
Just last week, I had the opportunity to announce an additional 19 pharmacies that are rolling out across the region. That’s in addition to the 22 pharmacies that were rolled out the week prior. That’s 41 locations to access a COVID-19 vaccine in Niagara. That’s in addition to the 11 sites that are rolling out vaccines in the region, as well as the Seymour-Hannah vaccination clinic, which the Premier visited in person to thank our remarkable frontline workers.
As we await more supply from the federal government, our government remains committed to ensuring that each and every community in Ontario receives equitable access to vaccinations. That’s why in Niagara, I’m proud to say, we have an average vaccination rate that is above the provincial average – to repeat, that’s over 119,000 vaccinations in Niagara, over 22 percent of the local population, and more are coming very soon. Thank you.”

First, what do they consider “Niagara”? St Catharines/Niagara Falls and vicinity = 416,000 population.
Secondly, are those people fully immunized or just one shot?
Have those vaccinated received both shots (eg nursing homes)? If so, how many does that leave who have not been vaccinated at all?
People 18 and up are receiving vaccines in Toronto but there are still limits in Niagara.
Booking appointments has been like pulling teeth for many.
22% is NOT herd immunity.
