A ‘Letter to the Editor’ shared with Niagara At Large, from Niagara, Ontario resident Kathleen MacCarthy

There is a great urgency for affordable housing for single and low-income individuals in the City of Niagara Falls and the Niagara Region.
Property development companies are building mega homes and sprawl on the periphery of the city that is out of the reach for the average resident.

Worse, due to the lack of rent control, prices on rental properties are increasing beyond affordable rates.
With federal funding, Toronto Mayor John Tory has begun to implement modular housing initiatives and rehabilitation of commercial and unused buildings for single dwelling units.
The City of Niagara Falls must follow suit and build decent, affordable housing for single and low-income residents as thousands across the city are in dire need.
