For NAL’s Niagara, Ontario and Buffalo, New York area readers, here is a bit of what is happening on the climate action front on the American side of our shared border
A Call-Out from the Western New York Youth Climate Council
Posted November 5th, 2019 on Niagara At Large
Buffalo, New York – Before we talk action, what is a Climate Emergency Declaration?
Very basically, it is a resolution which makes it clear that the government that passes it is open to taking climate change for the life threatening crisis it is.
Once we have our foot in the door, we can push for further actions based on the promises that they make in the passage of the resolution, and beyond. SO, in September we approached the Erie County legislature with a petition to have the County declare a Climate Emergency.
So far, we haven’t heard back. But that’s no reason to stop!
Now, we’re asking for your help to demand Buffalo Common Council declare an emergency as well.
We went to the Legislature with 577 all youth signatures, but this time we want even more, to show just how much Western New York supports a climate emergency.
You can sign below or get signatures on paper!
We have until November 15th to fill as many petition sheets as possible, so let us know if you’d like to help out!
Any age can sign

Are you a youth who wants to help fight climate change from right here in Western New York?
Or maybe an adult who knows some climatically inclined young folks? Well we have some good news for you!
The Western New York Youth Climate Council (the youth who lead and organize the Buffalo Youth Climate Strike) have begun holding regular meetings, the next of which is on November 9th!
If you are an interested youth or an adult who’d like to refer a youth to us, please let us know at email@example.com and we’ll give you all the details so you can participate!
A Brief Footnote from Niagara At Large reporter and publisher Doug Draper –
As NAL posts this call-out from our neighbours in the Buffalo, New York area, the man posing as U.S. President – reality TV con man Donald Trump – has made a formal application to the United Nations to pull out of the 2015 Paris Climate Accord, embraced by former U.S. President Barack Obama and the leaders of virtually every other nation around the world.
I can’t help but ask; What is wrong with the 30 million-plus people in the U.S. who would apparently support this individual if he shot someone on the streets of New York City in broad daylight? Do they care that little about the future of their children?
Shame on them all!
