Welland, Ontario – A not-for-profit corporation named Central Station Education Initiative (CSEI) is thrilled to announce the first annual Central Fire Station Celebration.
The event will be hosted in Downtown Welland on Hellems Avenue, from East Main Street to Division Street. The celebration is the first of a series of celebrations to create community support for the upcoming renovations of the building, leading up to the 100th anniversary in 2020.
Barbecued hot dogs and hamburgers will be served from noon by your local city councillors. A ceremony to commemorate Central Fire Hall is scheduled to start at 11am, followed by free live 1920’s inspired musical entertainment from 11am-3pm.
Musical entertainment includes Welland’s own very talented seniors choir “The Velvetones”, followed by a local award-winning singer/songwriter “heather Glabb”, and closing with “JAQ”, one of Niagara’s premier A Capella quartets.
“Quinn’s Custom Motorcycle’s” will have on display many of their award-winning custom motorcycles for the public to view, which will be followed by a viewer’s choice award at 3pm. Central Firehalls doors will be open for the public from 11am-4pm to have a “sneak-peek” at the first floor, while several of Niagara’s antique fire trucks will be on display through-out the street. Amongst the fire trucks will be artwork featured by local artists.
A children’s corner will offer paint your own pottery presented by “The Painted Turtle” and free face painting. Children can participate in painting a mural alongside local artists, and receive their own fire helmet. Custom made fire-fighting themed chocolates will also be available.
This event is presented by the Niagara Region under the Niagara Investment in Culture grant.
