Queen’s Park – Earlier this August, Official Opposition Leader Andrea Horwath recently announced the NDP’s new critic roles, naming Hamilton and Niagara MPPs for key portfolios to help make life better for families.
“The people of Hamilton and Niagara voted for a vision of hope and elected dedicated New Democrat MPPs to help them deal with their daily challenges,” said Horwath. “From access to mental health supports, to quality education and an increasing cost of living, each of our MPPs brings a unique perspective to the team, and will hold this government accountable to the needs of their communities.”In the Niagara region, Wayne Gates ( Niagara Falls) will serve as the NDP’s critic for Health and Safety, and WSIB, while newly elected MPPs Jeff Burch ( Niagara Centre) will serve as Municipal Affairs critic and Jennie Stevens ( St. Catharines) will serve as critic for Veterans, Legions and Military Affairs.
In the Hamilton area, MPP Monique Taylor (Hamilton Mountain) will continue to serve as critic for Children and Youth Services; Paul Miller (Hamilton East – Stoney Creek) will serve as Official Opposition critic for Tourism and Sport, while Sandy Shaw (Hamilton West—Ancaster—Dundas ) is the NDP’s new Finance and Treasury Board critic.
“I’m excited about our strong team of Hamilton and Niagara MPPs and the roles they will play in our caucus,” said Horwath. “I know they are passionate and outspoken and prepared to fight for families and the public services they depend on.
“Together we will give families hope for a brighter future.”
