Posted April 27th, 2018 on Niagara At Large
A Brief Foreword Note from NAL – This news follows in the wake of the recent announcement from Thorold’s current mayor, Ted Luciani, not to run for another term of office.
Thorold, Ontario, April 27, 2018 — Thorold’s long-time Regional Councillor and former Mayor, Henry D’Angela announced his intention of candidacy for Mayor today. D’Angela served as Mayor of Thorold from 2006-2010 and has continued in local government as Thorold’s Regional Councillor since then. His service to the community is lengthy and wide-ranging.
In addition to being elected to represent Thorold as its Regional Councillor in 2010, D’Angela was elected to Thorold Hydro Electric Commission in 1997 and elected to Thorold City Councillor in 2000 before becoming Mayor in 2006.
Henry has served as treasurer on the Welland Canal Foundation, chair of the Niagara Sports Commission and chaired numerous regional committees. He is currently Chair of the Niagara Regional Housing (NRH) Board and last term served as the Niagara Regional Police Board Chair.
“I decided to wait until my children were older before running for Mayor again. Serving as Thorold’s Regional Councillor allowed me to stay active in the community and still have time for their activities. Now I feel a responsibility to them in a different way. I want them to have opportunities here”.
“I want to make sure Thorold is a place where our children want to live,” said D’Angela, “That means building business and managing growth in a way that is forward-thinking and maintains our community values. Everything that we do now will affect our children and grandchildren. This is a fast-paced, complicated world right now and I want to ensure that Thorold takes a thoughtful, responsible approach that will guide us in the right direction”.
Barb Stephenson believes “Henry D’Angela’s commitment to Thorold is part of his character. He is involved for all the right reasons – to make a positive impact on our community. And he has the experience to do the job right”
Henry D’Angela was born and raised in Thorold. He is married to Rina, has two children and has run his own accounting firm, D’Angela Financial Services for the past 25 years.
