Ontaro PC Candidate April Jeffs Disrespects Niagara Centre Residents With Attack On Swart, Kormos And Forster

“I didn’t hear April’s voice as an NPCA Board Member when they decided to sue private citizen and Royal Canadian Air Force veteran Ed Smith for criticizing their lack of transparency and asking for accountability in how the NPCA spends our money.” –  Welland (Niagara Centre) Riding MPP Cindy Forster

“Where was Mayor Jeffs and her Town of Wainfleet when the conservative cabal on Regional Council attacked the Town of Pelham’s right to manage their own finances? Almost every other Niagara municipality passed a motion in support of Pelham.” – Niagara Centre NDP candidate Jeff Burch

A News Release from the Campaign of Niagara Centre Ontario NDP candidate Jeff Burch

Posted April 26th, 2018 on Niagara At Large

Welland, Ontario In a bizarre speech during a sparsely populated Welland Campaign Office Launch (earlier this month) Conservative candidate April Jeffs focused her attacks on Niagara Centre’s political legends, ignoring her opponents and policy ideas altogether.

After suggesting that merely opening a campaign office in Welland (this past April 14th) “sends a strong message that the people of South Niagara matter’’, Jeffs went on to suggest that the riding had suffered “years of being without a voice, being ignored and worse being invisible”.

There was no mention of policies that would help residents, which can be explained by the fact her party doesn’t have a platform.

Jeffs is apparently ready to traffic in the same brand of cynicism and negativity of PC leader Doug Ford. It is bizarre that anyone could label Peter Kormos, renowned province-wide for helping residents in Niagara Centre for decades, as not being “a voice”.

Jeffs also seemed to suggest that after the representation of (Mel) Swart, Kormos and Forster, she would be the person who “finally brings a voice to this riding”.

Both outgoing NDP MPP Cindy Forster and current Niagara Centre NDP Candidate Jeff Burch are skeptical of that claim.

“I didn’t hear April’s voice as an NPCA Board Member when they decided to sue private citizen and Royal Canadian Air Force veteran Ed Smith for criticizing their lack of transparency and asking for accountability in how the NPCA spends our money”, said Forster.

“Where was her voice then? Mel Swart helped create the NPCA. Believe me, you would have heard his voice if they tried to cover up mistakes or sue one of their own constituents.”

“Where was Mayor Jeffs and her town of Wainfleet when the conservative cabal on Regional Council attacked the Town of Pelham’s right to manage their own finances?” asked Burch.

“Almost every other Niagara municipality passed a motion in support of Pelham. I guess she must have lost her voice. You would have heard Peter Kormos if you tried something like that while he was on Regional Council.”

  1. Mel, Peter and Cindy gave a voice and a fight for people, causes and a more just society. They all spent countless hours over and above what would be expected for an average politician. They deserve and earned respect from individuals in their riding and beyond. Why doesn’t April stick to the issues instead of pretending that she cares? Individuals in her home town basically know that she represents developers.

If April Jeffs did not hear the voices of Swart, Kormos and Forster it’s because she wasn’t listening. The constituents of Niagara Centre have voted overwhelmingly for New Democrat MPPs since 1975 because they wanted effective and principled representation. Mel, Peter and Cindy always placed their constituents first and fought tenaciously on their behalf. Jeff Burch will continue that tradition in Niagara Centre. Ms Jeffs’ criticism is unfounded and won’t win her any points in the riding.

  3. This woman is, objectively, an idiot. She sullies the name of some amazing, passionate political and labour legends of Niagara. I think I am going to run for the mayorship she is taking a convenient vacation from. Let’s keep her out of parliament, and block her from returning to the mayors chair.
