Special Illumination of Niagara Falls in White Light Following Tragic Incident in Toronto

A News Release from Ontario’s Niagara Parks Commission

Posted April 24th, 2018 on Niagara At Large

Niagara Falls, Ontario – The Niagara Falls Illumination Board will light up Niagara Falls in white light this evening, as a symbol of binational support following the horrific attack on pedestrians in Toronto yesterday afternoon.

In honour of those who were killed and/or injured as a result of the senseless act, both the American and Canadian Horseshoe Falls will be illuminated from 9 p.m. to 9:15 p.m.

At one of the many street-side memorials in Toronto.

The stunning white light that will bathe the Falls will also act as a tribute to the resilience and strength of the City of Toronto and its citizens, as they cope with the pain and loss emanating from Monday’s tragic attack, which claimed the lives of ten people and injured 15 others.

All special illumination requests are reviewed and approved by the Niagara Falls Illumination Board, which has financed and operated the “illumination of Niagara Falls” since 1925.

The Niagara Falls Illumination Board is made up of representatives from the City of Niagara Falls Ontario, City of Niagara Falls, New York, Ontario Power Generation Inc., New York Power Authority, New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation and The Niagara Parks Commission.

It is the Illumination Board’s responsibility and mandate to finance and maintain the nightly illumination of both the Horseshoe and American Falls.
