Ontario NDP’s ‘Dental Care for All’ Plan is a Great Idea With One Very Important Cautionary Note

Costs of Dental Care in Ontario Have Got to be Brought Under Control!

“Being a dentist is a license to print money. They have to be rubbing their hands together in wait of government-paid billing!!! “

A Commentary by Carla Rienzo

I do not contest what the Ontario New Democratic Party is proposing, particularly if it is paid for by closing legal tax shelter loopholes for the rich.

But I do want to pose this question: “Why isn’t anyone questioning the ridiculously high cost of dental services?”

Sure, their equipment costs a lot of money and yes, the cost of university tuition is high, but how many times do they have to recover those costs?

Why should the work they do cost so much especially given that a great deal of it can be performed by trained chimps, meaning, it is not rocket science.

Further, there are no checks and balances where billing is concerned. There are no gatekeepers.

“Fee guides” are announced annually, are increased annually and they are merely guidelines.

A dentist can charge whatever (s)he wants just as long as there is consistency with their billing.

And lastly, when you are told you need this, that or the other procedure performed, DO YOU??

Does anyone ever get a second, unbiased opinion?

Being a dentist is a license to print money. They have to be rubbing their hands together in wait of government-paid billing!!!

Talk about winning the jackpot!!!

  1. Go for it! I see no negatives. Once government has the monopoly they will have to negotiate their fee rate and/or salary like any other employee, same as the newly licensed medical doctors working on a flat rate.
