Add Our Local Hospital to the Long List of Broken Ontario Liberal Government Promises

A New West Lincoln Memorial Hospital in Niagara, Ontario is Long Overdue

News from the Constituency Office of Niagara West-Glanbrook MPP Sam Oosterhoff

Posted February 28th, 2018 on Niagara At Large

Queen’s Park – Today Sam Oosterhoff, MPP for Niagara-West Glanbrook offered to brief the new Minister of Health and Long-Term Care on the redevelopment of the West Lincoln Memorial Hospital in Grimsby so that she could take action now.

A rendering for a new West Lincoln Memorial Hospital that many residents in the West Lincoln, Grimsby and Lincoln area have been wanting provincial approval for a long time.

“My constituents have been fighting for the redevelopment of the West Lincoln Memorial Hospital for far too long, going so far as to raise 14 million dollars towards this redevelopment,” declared Oosterhoff in the Legislature.

“In 2004, this Liberal government called the project ‘a priority’.”

“First the government promised construction would start by 2009. Then they promised it would start in 2011. Then the next promise was that redevelopment would begin in 2013. Then, after years of broken promises, the 2012 budget cancelled the project completely.”

“ So will this Minister of Health and Long Term Care commit to the redevelopment of West Lincoln Memorial Hospital, and give the residents of Niagara West – Glanbrook the healthcare they deserve and expect?” asked Oosterhoff.

“My constituents are in need of improved health care today and now,” said Oosterhoff. “They simply cannot afford to rely on any more broken Liberal promises.”

“We have only the Liberals to thank for the continual erosion of our health care services over the past 15 years,” concluded Oosterhoff. “The people of Ontario will not see the change they deserve until we have a PC government in power this June.”

  1. Ontario voters should take note that yesterday’s federal budget had NO new spending on healthcare. The Trudeau Liberals promised to work towards universal national pharmacare — except that Bill Morneau backtracked this morning to indicate that, in fact, a Liberal national pharmacare plan won’t be universal at all. So considering the the provinces depend considerably on federal healthcare transfer payments, it’s really no surprise that the Wynne Liberals aren’t committing themselves to building new hospitals or refurbishing others prior to the June election; the province is in debt.
