A 2017 Wrap-Up Message from the Alliance for the Great Lakes, a citizens advocacy group with members across the Great Lakes region

Posted December 31st, 2017 on Niagara At Large

2017 is wrapping up and we’re spending the last few weeks of the year looking back on everything you accomplished for the Great Lakes. This week, we’re highlighting advocacy wins and all the ways our supporters championed the Great Lakes.

You, our constituents, sent tens of thousands of emails, letters and petition signatures to decision makers in 2017.  You told your stories and raised your voices to protect the Great Lakes, and we couldn’t be more thrilled to have you on our team—check it out!

  • 2017 Advocacy Wins:This has been a challenging year for advocacy. Despite a tumultuous political landscape, Great Lakes champions like you accomplished some pretty amazing things. From defending against Asian carp, to advocating for a clean Lake Erie, to winning full funding for Great Lakes restoration—you are our Great Lakes heroes!
  • Algae contamination in Lake Erie – one of the challenges residents across the bi-national Great Lakes continue to face.

  • Standpoint Series:This year, we decided to take some time to really lay out the issues and give you, our supporters, an inside look at how we think about protecting the Great Lakes. This collection of articles is meant to offer a deeper look at the work that you make possible. The Standpoint Series will continue in 2018, so catch up now and start the year off with a fresh perspective on Great Lakes protection.

Thanks for your hard work, strong voice and steadfast commitment to the Great Lakes. This work would not be possible without you. Happy New Year!

Sincerely,
Alliance for the Great Lakes staff
