Keep our water safe
An Action Alert from the Alliance for the Great Lakes
Posted September 29th, 2017 on Niagara At Large
The images are striking.
Right now, green slime is covering the shores of western Lake Erie. The harmful algal bloom plaguing Toledo and the western basin of the lake is avoidable ― but we need to act now.
Three years ago, the Governors of Ohio and Michigan and the Premier of Ontario pledged action to cut back runoff pollution that feeds the toxic algae. But progress has been painfully slow.
The governors and premier are meeting in Detroit next month, and we need your help to get Lake Erie to the top of their agenda. Leading up to the meeting, we’ll be delivering thousands of petition signatures calling for urgent action to clean up the lake. Add your name today.
With thousands already signed on, and hundreds of thousands of residents outraged at the state of their water ― now is the time to raise your voice for clean water.
Sincerely, Molly Flanagan Vice President for Policy, Alliance for the Great Lakes
P.S. On Tuesday, October 10th, we’ll be releasing our analysis of what’s being done to address Lake Erie’s algae problem. I hope you can join us for Rescuing Lake Erie: An Assessment of Progress, a lunchtime webinar on October 10 at 12pm CT ― we’ll provide a rundown, talk next steps and leave plenty of time for questions.
