Ontario Liberal Government’s 2016 Budget Makes Life More Expensive For Average Families

“Seniors, families, business all got dinged. Name one person that isn’t paying more.”

A Commentary from the Office of Ontario Conservative Opposition Leader Patrick Brown

Queen’s Park, Toronto – Leader of the Official Opposition Patrick Brown used Question Period today to highlight some ways the Wynne Liberals Budget 2016 makes life more expensive for average Ontario families and seniors.

Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne won't raise income taxes, which are progressive, but keeps slamming us with higher and higher user fees, which hit lower income people hardest.

Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne won’t raise income taxes, which are progressive, but keeps slamming us with higher and higher user fees, which hit lower income people hardest.

“This budget increases virtually every other government service fee, and at the same time it cuts popular middle class tax credits for education and active children,” said Leader Patrick Brown. “Life is just that much more expensive for the average family.”

Ontario families are already burdened with skyrocketing costs of living, including among the highest electricity prices in North America. Rather than making life more affordable for Ontarians, the Liberals are hiking fees and slashing important tax credits to pay for years of scandal, mismanagement and waste.

Budget 2016 cut the Tuition and Education Tax Credit, the Children’s Activity Tax Credit and the Home Renovation Tax Credit. The Budget also hikes the cost of obtaining driver’s licences, hunting licences, and fishing licences among other things.

“Heating your home? That costs more. Filling up the tank? That’s more expensive too. Does your child play hockey? The Liberals took that help away,” added Brown. “Getting a degree? The Premier took those tax credits away. Do you have to drive to work? Well those fees went up. Seniors needing medication? Sorry, the Liberals are making you pay more now too.”

“Seniors, families, business all got dinged. Name one person that isn’t paying more.”

  1. Maybe this new Ontario Conservative Leader cares about you and I but Hudak as Leader was basically in my opinion a puppet on the string of Corporations and it was his platform of Corporate indulgence along with the Ontario NDP’s complete lack of any viable platform that allowed this in my opinion corrupt Ontario Liberal Party to win an election based on NOT wanting Hudak to become Premier., in essence a “PROTEST VOTE”. WE are now living or should I say EXISTING under the will op corruption and MALFEASANCE. So Mr. Brown you speak words and my only hope is if Elected in the future you are able to control the Corporate agenda and with ACTIONS work for the betterment of “ALL” Ontario Citizens….

  2. I am a Senior and live in low income housing because I wouldn’t be able to live else where. It is bad enough that Seniors now have to pay for their own glasses, and dental, now Kathleen Wynne want Seniors to even pay more money we don’t have for our medication. I am so upset over all this as the refugees get everything for free, so why can’t we also, after all we have also worked for years and now our money is going to these refugees also. I am not the only one who feels this way, but I am not afraid to speak up. Thank You
