One Final Appeal From Two Of Canada’s Best Known Political Satirists And From A Canine Friend Of Mine To Get Out There And Vote For Change!

From Doug Draper, Niagara At Large

As I was preparing this message, someone sent a note this way saying thank goodness the vote day is finally here and my “Harper bashing” will be over.vote together

The person who sent that note may not believe it, but I feel the same way. There are so many important issues in this region and this province and country that need more attention, and I’ve been looking forward for weeks to get back to them.

Meanwhile, I will leave what is left of the Harper bashing and why it is so important for you to go to the polls this Monday and vote for change to a few others, starting with Mary Walsh, a Canadian actress, satirist and social activist many of you may remember from CBC’s ‘This Hour Has 22 Minutes’.

Below is an image from Mary Walsh’s pitch to Canadians to vote for change, followed by a link to her website on the same topic which I urge you to take a few moments to visit.get out and vote marg httpcents.margbringschange.caindex.htm

Visit Mary Walsh’s site at http://cents.margbringschange.ca/index.htm .

Now comes an image featuring a plea to young Canadians to move away from the apathy too many of them showed in the 2011 federal election and go to the polls in droves this time – this one coming from Rick Mercer, who also came to the fore in This Hour Has 22 Minutes and who now has his own show on CBC called, you may have guessed it, ‘The Rick Mercer Report’.NAL mercer young people vote

Now finally, my wife and I have friend from afar who is now here visiting with her chiwawa named Pinky.

I am more of a cat person myself, but much to my delight Pinky has turned out to be the only dog I’ve ever met who shares my passion for following politics.

So much so that Pinky has been doing a better job than too many people out there of paying careful attention to the campaigns of the parties and their leaders in this federal election. And she’s become so upset with Harper’s antics Conservatives in the days leading up to the final vote that she grimaces and sticks her tongue out at the mere mention of Harper’s name or of another poll showing there are some 30 per cent of you out there willing to give his party your vote.

Sorry Pinky. Did I mention Harper's name again?

Sorry Pinky. Did I mention Harper’s name again?

Pinky’s pained reaction to all things Harper – as you can see in the accompanying picture – has me wishing: ‘If only she had the right to vote.”

As it is no, you do have the right to vote so don’t let Pinky down. Bring a smile back to her face by voting for change in this federal election.

This October 19th vote for the candidate in your riding who has the best chance of sending Harper and his Conservatives across our region and country packing.

Meanwhile, Pinky and I will look forward to getting back with you on Niagara At Large after all the votes are counted.

  1. I’ve had a heart for working with youth all my working life.
I believe in young people and their ability to do extrordinary things when given the opportunity. Sadly, too many do not know the great difference those who are eligible to vote could make in this or any other election.
So many young people with whom I have worked have started businesses, raised money for charities, led campaigns that changed laws, and raised the level of adult thinking. We need change. Young people can be the greatest change agents in the country.
I pray this election every person between the ages of 18 and 25 will cast a ballot; if they do, they can change the outcome of this election. They can be real agents for better government. I hope they do the right thing and cast a ballot, a right for which far too many seniors died!
