Ontario Liberal Government Celebrates Airbus Job Expansion In Niagara Falls Riding

Morocco Welcomes Airbus Expansion Announcement

(A Brief Foreword from NAL publisher Doug Draper – This announcement, which is good if it means any number of new, decent-paying jobs in a Niagara that has experience the loss of countless of thousands of well-paying manufacturing jobs over the past few decades, was made by Ontario’s Liberal Premier Kathleen Wynne in the middle of a hotly contested by-election in the Niagara, Ontario riding involving Liberal candidate Joyce Morocco, NDP candidate Wayne Gates and Tory candidate Bart Maves)

Fort Erie, Ontario –  Liberal candidate Joyce Morocco welcomed news that a local Fort Erie company, Airbus Helicopters Canada, will be expanding and creating 40 new, well paying jobs, which is a strong vote of confidence for the 235 people already employed at the company.

“Airbus Helicopter is the world’s largest helicopter manufacturer, and I am thrilled they have chosen our Fort Erie location for an expansion. This will create jobs and substantial economic opportunities in our community,” said Joyce Morocco.

“Our skilled workforce is one of Ontario’s biggest strengths and a competitive advantage in the global marketplace – I want continue fighting for well paying jobs and economic growth in Fort Erie by sitting at the table with Premier Wynne and being the strong voice we need to move our community in the right direction,” continued Morocco.

“Just last week I attended the Fort Erie Chamber of Commerce and was pleased to hear from the Economic Development Corporation that Fort Erie is in a good position for substantial growth going forward – I want to be the catalyst that makes this potential growth a reality. It is my priority as your candidate for Niagara Falls, Fort Erie, and Niagara-on-the-Lake,” concluded Morocco

  1. This is a God-send for Fort Erie, and the timing certainly can’t hurt Liberal candidate Joyce Morocco’s chances in Niagara’s upcoming by-election. Why not cement this goodwill with another positive announcement concerning the future of Fort Erie Racetrack?

  2. It is nice to hear that Wynne & Co. have not forgotten entirely about Fort Erie. Kathleen, Joyce and others in the Liberal entourage should have continued along the QEW to the Fort Erie Race Track to make a positive announcement regarding the track.

I too am thrilled at this good news. I’ve known Airbus Helicopter since they first set up shop in Fort as MMB Helicopter, and built some of their original jigs & fixtures. That goes back quite a while.
What puzzles me is why carpetbaggers like Kathleen Wynne should be allowed to take credit for these 40 jobs. The numerous articles I’ve are unclear, except to say … Hey! there’s an election happening!

To my point, what did Kathleen Wynne do to earn this photo-op – Did Airbus receive some type of Provincial subsidy? And if so, why did the already struggling taxpayers of Ontario have to subsidize the largest plane maker in Europe with annual revenues of US$45 BILLION?
Or would Airbus have already expanded its work-force regardless, based on their already substantial investment in people, precision tooling & infrastructure?
Is the general public aware that Airbus Helicopter is an annual US$8.5 BILLION business?
Is it common knowledge that Airbus Helicopter will not shut down Canadian operations if it ever expected to remain on the bidders’ list in Canada? It certainly is within the aviation world.

This, like the Samsung deal, just shows how little Wynne/McGuinty understand about big international business – maybe they don’t care either – and how easily they and their smarty-pants kiddy brigade of advisors and bureaucrats can get rolled.

In the meantime, just remember that although we should be appreciative of the 40 great jobs, Airbus Helicopter really has nowhere else to go, and Wynne should not be allowed to take credit for what clearly was not of her doing.

  4. The helicopter plant has a long way to go before it meets the expectations of 1983 when the plant was built across the street from Fleet Aircraft, MBB (Messerschmidt) as it was then called, recieved huge grants from the Federal and Ontario government to build their building, on top of that the Town of Fort Erie siphoned off 1.9 million dollars out of their current water account (which under the municipal act was illegal) it should have been debentured or put on the taxes of the people benefitting from the new water and sewage lines. The promise was up to 600 new jobs and work for Fleet aircraft, I still have the newspaper clipping of that time.any good news is good news these days for out beat up town. This has been a long wait .
