Niagara Falls, Ontario, January 28th, 2014 – Andrea Horwath, Leader of Ontario’s New Democrats was in Niagara Falls, joined by NDP Candidates Wayne Gates, to highlight the need to create jobs.

Ontario NDP leader Andrea Horwath and her party’s NDP candidate in the Niagara Falls riding, Wayne Gates
Horwath called today for a strong focus on creating local jobs in the construction of the new Niagara Falls hospital. “Niagara residents are tired of the endless talk and just want to see shovels in the ground,” Horwath said. “A leader like Wayne Gates can be trusted to ensure that the new hospital gets built and creates as many local jobs as possible. You simply can’t trust the other parties to stand up for jobs.”
Horwath cited the need for strong provincial rules to ensure local skilled workers in the construction trades get jobs from the multi-year project and that, as much as possible, local engineers, architects, and other design professionals are employed in all aspects of the project’s development.
“We need a new hospital in Niagara Falls now and I want to make sure this project hires locally to benefit our communities that have been hard hit by high unemployment,” Gates said. “It only makes sense that our residents who have the skills to design and build the new hospital should be getting the jobs that will be created during its construction.”
Horwath and Gates also called for a “Buy Ontario” policy that would maximize the purchase of locally made medical devices, furnishings and construction materials in project construction.

Tim Hudak’s “Right to Work” is not an attack on unions, it is a licence for employers to take advantage of workers. Check the statistics of the 26 States which have “Right to Work” Legislation. One can argue that not all employers are bad employers, IAre you willing to take the chance?

Of course they did……… Need I say more? OK I will….. people vote for me in the next election and WE will deliver jobs building the hospital that NEVER gets built. AND if it does this is just another example of vote buying politics that has plagued us the people of Ontario. The once proud province of Canada that has been brought low by a bunch of union/special interest pandering politicians who are more concerned about their own futures than they are with the welfare of this regions fine citizens!
Take not citizens on Niagara! This is just a carrot in front of the proverbial donkey!
Just sayin…….

In the 2011 election Hudak and partner promised to keep the Douglas Memorial Hospital Emergency Room open. He responded to my question “To what degree will the ER be open?” He responded it depends on finances. In this by election Hudak and partner are pushing for a Niagara Falls Hospital, as is Wynne and partner. Liberals spend 0ver $20 M to study location NOT build the hospital. Hudak wants to tender out the building of the hospital. Will the tender insist on local workers or will the winning bidder bring in own workers?

It ain’t unions who create businesses! They create jobs and increase product and service costs due to the inefficiency and laziness of their members! They do NOT create businesses.
Without business you don’t have jobs unless you are in the government and boy aren’t those union members productive members of our society!
Do I really have to explain that to all of you?
I was a union member (UFCW) for 8 years while I put myself through University (no grants, plenty of loans, but no grants) and I have never witnessed such a blatant disregard for all that is right with that organization. I know many GM workers as well that lost their jobs when GM found it was cheaper to go south. I guess hopping the fence to spend their shifts at the Golden Pheasant (amongst other things) was a little short-sighted. Funny how when they were caught the UNION was there to protect them from discipline!
Something had to give!
Just sayin.

Greg, if what you say is true, you had incompetent supervisors. Had the supervisors exercised their responsibilities to address the issue initially then your co-workers would have disciplined.
One scenario, supervisor(s) turned the other way to allow the slack work to exist _ in this case blame the Employer/Supervisor not the Union.
Second scenario, the employer assigns a new supervisor who addresses the lack of work ethics. Workers complain to the \Union that the supervisor is harassing them so the Union files a grievance on behalf of the workers. In this situation the Union has no choice but to represent the workers. Had the previous supervisors addressed the problem in the same manner as the new supervisor did, the Union involvement would not have been necessary.
Greg, do not blame the Union, blame the Employer.
