Ontario Has Blown Away Parliamentery Democracy For Two Months And Counting

A Brief Comment by Doug Draper

It was two months ago, October 15, that Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty announced his intention to pack it in as the province’s top boss and, at the same time, shut the doors on our legislative assembly until his ruling Liberals pick a new leader.

Queen's Park - Now one of the most useless public buildings in Ontario. Maybe we should sell it.

Queen’s Park – Now one of the most useless public buildings in Ontario. Maybe we should sell it.

The decision by McGuinty – who still serves as Ontario’s lame duck premier – to prorogue parliamentary democracy in this province has gone on for two months now and, quite depressingly, there seems to be very little outrage one hears on main streets or the back streets of our communities in Ontario over it.

It is as if parliamentary democracy in Ontario does not matter to most people who live in this province and pay their asses off in taxes here. Why is that? Why don’t people care enough to be marching on the streets over this?

We had fathers and grandfathers fighting and dying in wars for the system of democracy we are now pissing away. It’s disgusting that most of you aren’t engaged in protest over this.

Are McGuinty and his cabinet  cronies right? Does parliamentary democracy not matter in Ontario any more?

  1. I have been talking about this for the past two months and heard not a whimper from anyone else in fact not even the customary lame brain remarks from the Two Corporate Parties BUT THEN of course both these parties have been guilty of this on the Federal as well as the Provincial level…Democracy???? hell it a system of government ? then it needs to be changed Democracy in name only when a bunch of elected sheep can hi-jack and subrogate the will of the people is more than alarming it is a dictatorship in action.

The reason for the lack of outrage is because the taxpayers know they can’t do much about it. Ontario voted for this crook 3 times hoping for a different outcome every time and got the same results instead. Ontarians can’t be bothered to walk the streets with signs but CAN sit in front of the TV and dumb themselves down with crap like “Dancing with the stars” , “American Idol” or video games. Ontarians are self-absorbed people who would rather say – “Oh well. what can you do” rather than complain because complaints usually fall on deaf ears, because the Liberals designed this government in such a way that you have to go through a lot of red tape before someone actually responds to our complaints…has anyone ever gotten through to Dalton McLoser’s office and had an actual response? Very rare if it ever happened at all….Politics in Ontario is not a very well liked topic because people either just don’t understand it or are way too busy working long hours just so they can pay those enormous taxes to make the Liberal cronies wealthier and whatever’s left put food on the table for themselves…

  3. This HAS gone on long enough. There is business to be done, the people’s business and right now NOTHING is getting done. Unfortunately the liberals think by prolonging this the public is going to forget their mistakes. They are only prolonging the inevitable. Even Hudak senses it, he’s been out media blitzing just salivating over the thought of another election.

  4. I guess I am just becoming an angry old man. If Dalton McGuinty were to suddenly appear in my presence right now, I would probably beat the living crap out of him for being such a scum-sucking-bottom-feeder. What that man has done to the province and people of Ontario is beyond criminal! I do not consider him to be a “lame-duck” premier. I do not consider him to be premier. He is about as useful as an udder on a bull. And the same goes for all elected Liberal MPPs….every last entitled one of the bastards.

  5. Well you might as well ask why smart people do dumb things.

If you don’t like the Ontario government then the idea of them doing less of whatever they do might seem like a good thing. Problem is they didn’t stop governing, just went into hiding.

  6. Is their pay prorogued for an equivalent period?
They’re trying to take away others’ rights to strike while they are actually striking themselves. Obviously they are not leading by example.

  7. I remember as a young man being a very passionate Union representative, at a time when wages were very low and there were NO perks The offices I held were numerous and when a meeting was held there were less than a half dozen members show up yet we the exec worked hard for ALL the members. We did not incite our members to revolt, go on strike or to place the citizen’s life in jeopardy
When I see these teachers die defending the Children this striking mass makes me sick, yes sick and I do or at least did support the need for unions but you people are making it almost impossible. Yes I follow the sunshine list and there are hundreds of educators on that list making big bucks and I am sure, considering the so many unemployed, that you teachers are not Hurting in the realm of take home wages./////Please use individual thinking do not be led like sheep by “Empire Builder”

  8. Well asked Doug,

We don’t march because we are too busy making a living just to keep afloat or a little more. That’s just the way the government wants it. Keep us too busy working for those things we want by taxing us more and more over time and we won’t have time or enough energy to do anything else like marching. I know it sounds wrong but you can’t blame people. It takes two incomes to live these days. Between the Municipalities, Region, Province and the Fed and all the taxes we pay, there is very little left over.

Now is it right we don’t march? Nope. Do you blame the general mass? I can’t. I will say this though, people march in different ways. Whether its working under the table, jumping the ditch…. All counter-productive and unfortunate, but a reality regardless. All because it’s easier than marching and produces immediate results.

Let me ask this; has anyone joined the Canadian Taxpayer Federation? It’s an easy way to support common-sense government and doesn’t involve dealing directly with politicians whom I consider to be generally worthless and self-serving.

    Just sayin…..
