Ontario Tories Continue To Slam McGuinty’s Liberal Government Over Queen’s Park Shut Down

A Submission from the office of Ontario Conservative Leader Tim Hudak

QUEEN’S PARK, October 19, 2012 – Premier Dalton McGuinty’s irresponsible decision to shut down the Legislature is nothing but a cynical and crass political attempt to hide from the full extent of the truth being uncovered about scandals at Ornge air ambulance and the gas plant debacles, Ontario PC House Leader Jim Wilson said today.

An empty Ontario legislature. Is that the way we want it for months to come?

“Each day the House remains prorogued is another day the Liberals fail to take urgent action to address Ontario’s burgeoning jobs and debt crisis,” Wilson said. “Proroguing the Legislature is nothing more than a cowardly act to avoid accountability and hide from the truth.”

Wilson sent a letter to Government House Leader John Milloy today, calling on the McGuinty Liberals to immediately recall the Legislature and to release all remaining documents on their $1-billion gas plant boondoggle.

“When McGuinty decided prorogation was the way to run away from the mess he created in Ontario, he killed nine government bills and over 94 private members’ bills,” Wilson stated. “Moreover, he shut down the investigations into the Liberals’ Ornge air ambulance and gas plant scandals so his government could avoid further embarrassment.”

Wilson referenced the Ontario PCs’ Ability to Pay Act, which was originally up for a vote in the Legislature yesterday until McGuinty brought the work of the House to a grinding halt. If passed, the Act would have fixed a broken arbitration system that awards unaffordable contract settlements to government unions – a trend fuelled by nine years of the McGuinty Liberals throwing taxpayers’ hard-earned money at their former union allies.

“McGuinty and his government need to recall the Legislature immediately so that we can get back to work,” Wilson concluded. “The 600,000 men and women who woke up without a job this morning are depending on us to grow the economy and help create jobs.”

  1. The closer scrutiny that Ontarians bring to bare on these Gas plants the sooner they will realize the folley of wind turbines being connected into our existing grid !They have a use but only on their own in dedicated applications where their intermittant production does not require expensive Gas plants to back them up! One use would be to generate electricity for the production of hydrogen ( since it requires a lot of power to seperate hydrogen from the oxygen) . But when this is done you are left with a gas that can be stored and cleanly burned on high pollution days to generate electricity for air conditioners.

  3. Seems self serving of Hudak making the point of closing parliament when Stephen Harper did the same thing when it suited the federal Conservatives. or does Hudak somehow distance himself from his own party?
