Niagara Conservative Candidate Slams Possible Carbon Tax

(Niagara At Large is posting the following September 21 media release from the campaign office of Welland Riding Conservative candidate Domenic Ursini for our readers’ information.)

WELLAND– On a live chat hosted by the Brantford Expositor yesterday, Dalton McGuinty’s Junior Energy Minister, Dave Levac, confirmed that a carbon tax is on the table if the Liberals are re-elected on October 6th:

Question:  Just to clarify, if a carbon tax is being reviewed does that mean there’s a possibility it would appear in the next 4 years if the Liberals were re-elected? It seems like a really progressive policy to help supplement the Green Energy Act.

Dave Levac:  Jim: Yes there is a possibility that a carbon tax is on the table to evaluate, because it presently is.

A screenshot of Levac’s revelation from today’s live chat is available here:  http://scr.bi/pfRyTD

Dave Levac joins a long list of Dalton McGuinty Liberals who have confirmed that a carbon tax will be Dalton McGuinty’s next hit to the pocketbook of Ontario families.
Andrea Horwath and the NDP will also implement a carbon tax on families in the Welland riding. On August 11, the Toronto Sun reported Horwath promised to “institute a carbon cap-and-trade scheme” for Ontario’s hardworking families if elected Premier.  http://www.torontosun.com/2011/08/11/ndp-unveil-environmental-platform

  QUOTES:

“The choice in this election is clear. Both Dalton McGuinty and Andrea Horwath want families to pay more in taxes – this time courtesy of a carbon tax. Only Tim Hudak and the Ontario PC Party will not implement a carbon tax.”
– Domenic Ursini, Ontario PC Candidate for Welland

“Dalton McGuinty’s Liberals have confirmed what we all suspected – the Liberals will implement a carbon tax if re-elected. Only Tim Hudak and the Ontario PC Party will deliver tax relief for hardworking families in the Welland riding.”
– Domenic Ursini, Ontario PC Candidate for Welland

  1. Carbon tax is a great idea, and long overdue. Time to wean ourselves off of carbon. “The stone age didn’t end because we ran out of stones.”

  2. One is left to wonder then, what do the Conservatives plan to do to help the environment? Considering they’re opposed to the Samsung deal, wind power and a carbon tax, one is left to assume it is coal and nuclear. BTW, I’m still trying to figure out how Ursini thinks Andrea Horwath’s proposed cap-and-trade proposal will affect “hard-working families.” It is companies that would be involved. Involving these ‘hard-working families’ Ursini is concerned about doesn’t make any sense unless he somehow thinks an NDP government, or any government, would have families selling and trading carbon points on the open market based on how much each family pollutes the environment.

  4. Australia doesn’t seem to mind their carbon tax. But then they’re already dealing with negative impacts of climate change. Using ridicule as a tactic to try to persuade others of your views is usually unproductive, as are ad hominen attacks etc. Interestingly though, Gore does deal with that issue on his Climate Reality Project.

I would go so far as to suggest that there likely isn’t a significant difference in average levels of intelligence between those who accept AGW, and those who deny it.

  5. I am not sure what the answer is, but we do have to do something to stem the tide of emissions. One only has to have asthma or other breathing difficulties to know that certain areas of the city are polluted. one of which is where the new hospital is going to be. Too many cars with one person in them, hundreds, thousands every hour.
