If William Shakespeare were able to come back today and visit St. Catharines, Ontario’s Montebello Park, it is hard to believe he would not be pleased to have one of his most popular plays performed there.
This coming July 24, and for one night only, the Toronto-based Driftwood Theatre Group will be bringing its production of Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night to this classic Olmsted-designed park in north Niagara.
For more on this event, Niagara At Large is posting the following media release from the touring theatre troupe. And for more information on other matters of interest and concern to residents in our greater binational Niagara region, visit www.niagaraatlarge.com.
Bard in the Park
July 5, 2010 – Be not afraid of greatness: some are born great, some achieve greatness and some get to watch greatness performed live on stage.
The Driftwood Theatre Group is performing Twelfth Night, one of William Shakespeare’s most celebrated comedies, in picturesque Montebello Park for one night only on July 24.
Twelfth Night tells the story of one young woman’s journey of self-discovery amid a strange, new world after a tragic shipwreck separates her from the only family she knows. Filled with some of Shakespeare’s most celebrated characters caught up in a humourous love triangle, the performance promises to be an entertaining, family-friendly evening.
The Driftwood Theatre Group is a professional touring theatre company from Toronto, bringing their skills to the outdoors each summer. They have shared the works of William Shakespeare with more than 60,000 people across Ontario for 15 years.
Bard fans are invited to make a night of this theatrical event with picnic dinners that can be pre-ordered by contacting Strega Café at 905-984-5872 or Pan Café at 905-687-8704. Seating rentals are available. Audience members can also bring their own chairs or blankets.
The performance is sponsored by the City of St. Catharines and happens Saturday, July 24 at 7:30 p.m., rain or shine. Admission is charged on a pay-as-you-can basis with a suggested fee of $15 per person. Tickets can also be pre-ordered by visiting http://www.driftwoodtheatre.com.
