In Wake Of Controversial Deer Cull In Niagara, Ontario, Province Set To Kill Off More Wildlife – This Time Wolves & Coyotes Up North

A Call-Out from the citizens advocacy group Niagara Action For Animals

January 2016

Dear Friends of Animals -This is an urgent call to action!!

Many controversial government announcements are released when no one is watching, so too was the announcement by Ontario’s Wynne government to begin a wolf cull in Northern Ontario.wolves

Posted on Ontario’s Environmental Bill of Rights Registry on December 17th, right when most are busy with the holidays, the Ontario government. is proposing to remove the previous requirements for hunters to purchase a special hunting ‘seal’ to kill wolves and remove the restriction to kill only one wolf per season.

The limit on killing coyotes will be lifted and hunters can kill as many coyotes as they want. Unlike targeted culls where a specific number of wolves are killed, the Ontario cull allows for thousands of wolves to be killed each year.

Why?

This is in response to a dwindling numbers of moose. The government did NOT suspend hunting moose & moose calves. (Yes, hunters are allowed to kill baby moose).

Rather than close the hunting of moose and calves and/or protect moose habitat from intensive forestry and forestry applied herbicides that wither young seedlings eaten by moose during the winter months – it is simply easier to kill wolves and coyotes.

Please post a comment on the environmental registry website. You have until January 18th to post. Even a few lines will help…..please write in your own words, but you could include things like the unsound practice of wolf culls and the fact that they should suspend moose hunting, protect moose environment and stop herbicide spraying to kill seedlings.
