Ontario Liberals Miss the Mark on Climate Change

A Comment from Ontario’s Conservative Party

QUEEN’S PARK, Ontario, July 7th, 2015 – The Environmental Commissioner of Ontario’s 2015 report, Feeling the Heat, is another example of the Wynne Liberals saying one thing and doing another. With the Environmental Commissioner confirming that Ontario is set to miss its 2020 greenhouse gas targets, the Liberal’s empty promises and lack of leadership are evident once again.

“The Liberals make grand promises without a realistic plan to reach them. They are more focused on environmental photo-ops than actually hitting their targets,” said PC environment critic Lisa Thompson. “Much like the Liberal’s plan to balance the budget, this report confirms that the government’s climate change action plan is unrealistic.”

No matter what the Liberals call their carbon tax it will have the same results: increasing cost of living for Ontarians and businesses will continue to find it difficult to compete.

“‎Coupled with our province’s skyrocketing energy rates, the new cap-and-trade plan will shutter the windows of our largest manufacturers and drive businesses away. Business won’t be producing emissions in Ontario, because they won’t be located in Ontario,” said Thompson.

PC Leader Patrick Brown added, “Ontario’s businesses are already burdened by some of the highest energy costs in North America, and they are now trying to bring in a cap-and-trade system that puts a tax on everything.  The Wynne Liberals are making it harder and harder to do business in Ontario and compete successfully around the globe.”

  1. Our Premier imitates our Prime Minister.
    >be available for photo ops;
    >say what audience wants to hear;
    >travel to “promote” opportunities;
    >create jobs outside Ontario/Canada

  2. The actions and lack of actions of the Provincial Liberals and the Provincial Conservation governments during the previous few decades has been dismal to say the least and when one of these Corporate Parties stands at Queen’s Park or in the Corporate Media to criticize the complete lack of the others ENVIRONMENTAL agenda it is an indication of their complete disregard for the Intelligence of the Ontario People or the peoples of Canada and of the World.

    Let’s all take a deep breath before we rush headlong into systemic impoverishment to satisfy ideological preferences.
    As a practising environmentalist myself and having spent years on the cutting edge of pollution abatement, I share concerns over procrastination by elected officials in matters that are within their purview.
    However, this whole CO2 business stinks of political interference by agendas inimical to Canadians … the competing agendas of mendacious international manipulators – from Putin to Soros – that would sacrifice the existential prospects of OUR country and our youth to satisfy their greed.
    It has been said that the premise of international carbon taxing schemes is to take money from poor people in rich countries like Canada, and give it to rich people “poor” countries, and the oh so entitled plutocrats that orchestrate this mess – the Gores, the Soros, the Strongs, and their acolytes. These shameless people seek only to line their pockets at the expense of well meaning Canadians.
    Lets make sure that we don’t sacrifice OUR poor, OUR working people, and OUR young for a pat on the head from some venal UN bureaucrat. We’ve had enough of the likes of Pachauri and his Blatter-like ilk.
